COVENTRY, R.I. (AP) - Authorities say an early morning fire destroyed a barn and damaged a house in Rhode Island.

It happened at around 4 a.m. Wednesday in western Coventry.

Police say the fire started in the barn and spread to the back of the home. By the time firefighters arrived, the barn was engulfed in flames.

A family of six and their pets managed to escape.

Police say no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
