NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a New Orleans street gang member has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after admitting to federal drug and firearms charges.

The U.S Attorney’s Office said in a news release Wednesday that 22-year-old Ruben pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute more than 28 grams of crack cocaine and using firearms in further of drug-trafficking activity.

Geiger had been charged with nine other members of the gang, who frequented the area of the former Melpomene public housing complex.

Prosecutors said the gang sold crack in Central City and participated in acts of violence against rival gangs.
