A YouGov poll released Wednesday shows that Planned Parenthood’s approval rating has dipped slightly even though 70 percent of adults have heard little or nothing about the release of alarming undercover videos, fueling charges of a snub by the news media.

“Thanks to media blackout, most Americans are in the dark about Planned Parenthood videos,” said a Thursday headline on the conservative Federalist website.

Even though the sometimes graphic videos have prompted two states to defund Planned Parenthood, along with a Senate vote, House and Senate probes and at least 10 state investigations, only 30 percent of those surveyed said they had heard “a lot” about the issue.

Another 38 percent said they had heard “a little,” while 32 percent they had heard “nothing at all.” Of those who had heard at least “a little,” only 45 percent said they had seen “any of the videos or clips,” while 55 percent said they had not.

The survey of 1,000 adults was conducted from July 30 to Aug. 2, about three weeks after the release of the first video July 14 by the pro-life Center for Medical Progress.

Fifty percent said they had a favorable opinion of Planned Parenthood, down from 52 percent in mid-July and 55 percent in March 2014.

“There has been a slight increase in negative feelings about Planned Parenthood, but half of Americans retain a favorable opinion,” said the YouGov analysis.

The conservative Center for Media Research reported Wednesday that three broadcast networks — ABC, CBS and NBC — spent 20 minutes and 21 seconds on covering the five videos released in the past three weeks, while there was four times more coverage of Cecil the African lion.

“None of the network news shows covered the content in the fifth CMP video released August 4, where Planned Parenthood workers laughed over aborted baby parts ‘all mixed up together in a bag,’” said the center analysis.
