MELVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Traffic is moving slowly on the westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway following an early-morning tractor trailer crash.

Authorities say the accident happened just before 6 a.m. near exit 50 in Melville.

Suffolk County police say the HOV and left lane of the four-lane westbound highway have reopened. All lanes had been closed earlier between exits 50 and 49.

Police say it appears the driver escaped injury. No one else was hurt and no other vehicle appeared to be involved.

Cars were diverted to the service road where traffic was bumper to bumper.

It’s not immediately clear what caused the accident.
