PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - National Grid is reporting progress in restoring power to customers in Rhode Island two days after the state was hit by violent thunderstorms.

But the utility said more than 11,800 outages remained as of 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, most of them in Kent County.

More than 120,000 customers lost power Tuesday at the height of the storms which caused extensive tree damage and at least one death in southern New England.
