VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office van was struck by a drunken driver while transporting inmates.

The sheriff’s office says the crash occurred Thursday morning when a 2015 Kia Forte rear-ended the van, which was driven by a sheriff’s deputy. The sheriff’s office says the van was not stopped at the time of the collision and was traveling about 45 miles per hour, which was the posted speed limit. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. The van had been transporting inmates from jails in Chesapeake and Portsmouth.

The Kia’s driver, 26-year-old Mikul A. Brown, has been charged with driving under the influence and has been released on a $2,000 secured bond.
