SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture has named the state’s first “Ag Ambassadors.”

The department announced Thursday that Evelyn Brandt-Thomas and Glen Brandt of Springfield will serve in the posts.

Agriculture Director Philip Nelson says the Ag Ambassadors will serve key functions primarily at the Illinois State Fair and the DuQuoin State Fair in the next few weeks.

Brandt-Thomas and Brandt are sister and brother chosen as ambassadors because of the “dedication to the preservation of Illinois agriculture for years to come.”

They founded the Brandt agribusiness which has grown from a small Pleasant Plains operation to an enterprise with international reach.

Ag Ambassadors must be Illinois residents who are heavily involved in and have a history of promoting agriculture.
