SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Gas System - the state’s only provider of piped natural gas - says its nearly 50,000 customers in Chittenden and Franklin counties will see a small rate decrease beginning this month.

The company’s rates have gone down 15 percent since 2012. The latest decrease is 0.26 percent.

Vermont gas says that, based on today’s prices, natural gas is 48 percent cheaper than propane and 25 percent less expensive than heating oil.
