BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (AP) - A 37-year-old man is charged in the strangulation death of his girlfriend at her home in Brooklyn Park.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports (https://bit.ly/1MhCKrb ) Toby Nicholas Clarke, of Oakdale, faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of 36-year-old Krista Ambers.

The Hennepin County attorney’s office says Clarke has a history of domestic abuse charges and an order for protection filed against him.

According to a criminal complaint filed Friday, Clarke called 911 at about 3 a.m. Wednesday to report that his girlfriend was unconscious.

The complaint says Clarke claimed he choked her while they were having rough sex but Ambers’ friends and family told police he was repeatedly abusive to her.

He’s set to appear Monday in Hennepin County District Court.
