MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Prosecutors have charged a Brooklyn Park man with assault for beating a police officer over the weekend.

Twenty-five-year-old Lance Cedric Carr is charged with first-degree assault. He’s expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday.

According to the criminal complaint, a Brooklyn Park police officer was sent to some town houses early Sunday to check out a complaint of loud noises from a parked car. When the officer arrived, he learned that Carr, the only person in the car, had a warrant for his arrest.

The complaint says the officer had Carr step out of the vehicle when Carr suddenly turned and threw a punch. The punch missed, but Carr grabbed the officer and they both fell to the ground.

The officer’s gun discharged, but no one was hit.
