COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics says it will hold its national swimming and diving championships in Columbus in 2016 and 2017.

The group made the announcement Monday, as it entered a two-year deal with the Columbus Sports Council to host the meets at the Columbus Aquatics Center.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (https://bit.ly/1Otha3A) that the 2016 event will be March 2-5.

The newspaper reports that the 57,000-square foot aquatics center includes a 10-lane, 50-meter swimming pool and a diving well; and seating for 900 fans.

The NAIA said 26 institutions sponsor men’s swimming and diving and 29 sponsor women’s swimming and diving. Former conference member Oklahoma Baptist University currently owns both men’s and women’s national championships.
