YAZOO CITY, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi area farmers are being encouraged to take part in a waste pesticide disposal event.

The Vicksburg Post (https://bit.ly/1NFeMHZ) reports the event will be held Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Yazoo City.

Anna McCain with the Warren County Extension Service says there is no charge to Mississippi farmers, but farmers are responsible for safely transporting waste pesticides to the site. She says there will be a licensed contractor on site accepting the waste products.

Waste pesticides include unusable products such as insecticides and fungicides. Rinsates or pesticides in bulk containers will not be collected, however.

The event is coordinated by the Mississippi State University Extension Service with funds made available through the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce.
