WASHINGTON (AP) - A gun has been found in a student’s backpack at a District of Columbia high school.

Wilson High School principal Kimberly Martin says in a statement that the gun was found Tuesday afternoon. She says the gun was turned over to police, and the student is in custody. D.C. police are investigating.

Martin says no one was harmed by the weapon and there is no immediate threat to the school.

Wilson High School is in northwest Washington and is considered one of the city’s best and most academically rigorous public schools.
