Actresses Helen Mirren and Rosie Perez jabbed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump Monday night during the 2015 Gotham Awards ceremony in New York City.

Ms. Perez, a presenter at the ceremony, veered off-script to trash Mr. Trump.

“In America, the democratic process is incredibly important … especially when we have someone like Donald Trump running for president,” she said, receiving laughter from the audience, The Guardian reported.

“It’s up to you the people to vote — and not for Donald Trump,” she said. “They didn’t tell me to say that. I just threw that in there.”

Ms. Mirren also took a dig at business magnate while accepting a career tribute.

“Writers have opened the door for me, the door through which I’ve had the great opportunity to walk through, and what beautiful and terrible things words are,” Ms. Mirren said in her speech. “Conveyers of love and hatred and inspiration and stupidity, Donald Trump. Meanness and generosity, kindness and cruelty.”
