CELINA, Ohio (AP) - An armed man who police say ordered an Ohio trooper out of his car before the trooper shot him to death has had at least two previous run-ins with the State Highway Patrol.

Court records show that 22-year-old Justin McHenry was stopped by troopers in 2012 and 2014 and charged with driving under the influence.

A patrol spokesman said Monday that investigators don’t know what prompted the confrontation in the western Ohio city of Celina (suh-LEYE’-nuh).

Investigators say trooper Brandon Chaney was filling out paperwork in his parked cruiser when McHenry parked nearby and ordered the trooper to get out. The patrol says McHenry then pointed a 9mm handgun at the trooper.

Patrol officials say the trooper tried to disarm McHenry before shooting him.
