BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Authorities say a Bangor police officer has shot and killed a man.

Bangor Police Chief Mark Hathaway says the officer pulled over a car in a convenience store parking lot Tuesday evening.

Hathaway says the man got out of the car and took off running toward the woods behind the store.

Witnesses tell WABI-TV (https://bit.ly/1Tjtgvx ) that they heard multiple gunshots. Hathaway confirms the man was killed. The officer involved was not hurt.

No other information was immediately available. The state attorney general’s office is handling the investigation.
