NEW YORK (AP) - The New York City public school system plans to expand its musical program in which students write, cast, rehearse and perform their own musicals to 10 additional high schools.

Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina announced the expansion of SING on Tuesday.

SING began at Midwood High School in 1947. The program’s expansion is being supported by a donation from singer-songwriter Taylor Swift in partnership with the Fund for Public Schools.

The 10 schools will start script-writing and the casting process this month, with final performances slated for early spring.
