SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - An Orange County man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for punching his infant daughter’s head multiple times, causing critical injuries.

Andres Tafoya pleaded guilty in July to attempted murder, child abuse and endangerment and admitted sentence-enhancing violations for great bodily injury to the victim.

The 32-year-old was sentenced Monday.

Prosecutors said Tafoya pummeled the girl’s head while watching her when the baby’s mother was at work in 2013.

Police said Tafoya helped take the girl to the hospital but left before officers arrived.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/1IlT5uk) that in 2011, Tafoya was charged with two counts of domestic violence and one count of disturbing the peace, all misdemeanors. The domestic violence charges were later dropped when he pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace.
