RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (AP) - A company that runs tests needed to approve specialty drugs and biotech products says it will add 260 jobs in Durham County over the next five years.

Philadelphia-based contract research organization Premier Research plans to expand on its existing 60 employees in Research Triangle Park by opening a new operations center. The company has 1,000 employees in 50 countries, including a heavy presence in eastern Europe.

The new jobs for project managers, clinical monitors and data management specialists will pay more than $73,000 a year on average, higher than the county’s $66,600 average. The state promised tax breaks of up to $2.6 million over 12 years if job-creation targets are met.
