HOPE VALLEY, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island officials plan to rebuild a deteriorating Hope Valley dam as part of an initiative to repair or replace failing dams throughout the state.

Rep. Justin Price, of Richmond, contacted the state Department of Environmental Management urging them to repair components of the Upper Wyoming Dam on Wyoming Pond. Richmond and Hopkinton residents were concerned that their wells might run dry when the water level in the pond dropped low.

Price tells The Westerly Sun (https://bit.ly/21rSaik ) he recently learned the state had agreed to repair the high-hazard dam and issued a request for design proposals that will identify the scope of the work and time needed for its completion.

Officials say the dam is one of several in the state that will undergo major improvements.
