BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) - Family members of a Gage County Jail inmate who died in custody have filed a lawsuit against the county.

KWBE-AM reports (https://bit.ly/1NI21KV ) that family members in the will of Adam Wolken filed the suit Nov. 25 against Gage County Sheriff Millard Gustafson and other unnamed county employees.

Wolken hanged himself in the detention center and died on Feb. 15, 2014.

The plaintiffs allege negligence on behalf of the sheriff’s office and say that law officers should have known Wolken was a danger to himself. The lawsuit also states that there was a failure to transfer him to another facility for his safety.

The plaintiffs are seeking $500,000 in damages.

A Gage County District Court grand jury previously found no criminal conduct that caused or contributed to the death of Wolken.
