BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Prosecutors say a former U.S. Army solider has been found guilty of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance says 43-year-old Rick Lee Evans of Anniston, Alabama, was convicted Friday by a federal jury for sexually abusing a five-year-old child. Evans and his then-wife, who is a Department of Defense employee, were residing in Germany when they were asked to take temporary custody of the child.

The child’s parents were deployed to Iraq with the U.S. Army.

Prosecutors say the child was sexually abused by Evans on multiple occasions during the 18 months the child lived with him from May 2007 to December 2008.
