GROTON, Conn. (AP) - A school official in Groton says a comment about somebody having a gun that led to a lockdown of a high school has been traced to a misunderstanding.

Schools superintendent Michael Graner says there was never a threat at Fitch High School.

The school was locked down for about two and a half hours Friday morning and police conducted a search after a student reported an alarming comment to administrators. No weapon was found on school property.

Graner says students were cooperative and helped police to pin down where the rumor about the gun originated.
