PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - Pawtucket police are seeking more diverse recruits.

Police officials hope new recruitment videos in English and Spanish will attract a broader pool of applicants.

Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien says the goal is to attract people who may not have considered joining. The videos have been posted on the department’s website and social media pages.

Officials want to hire about two dozen officers over the next year and a half.

Grebien says the current force doesn’t reflect the makeup of the community. About 700 people applied last year and police expect to see as many again this year.

The deadline to apply is Dec. 31. WPRI-TV reports the city also plans to make a Fire Department recruitment video.
