RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) - An eastern Indiana man has been convicted of murder in the case of a 17-year-old boy beaten to death with aluminum baseball bats.

A Wayne County jury deliberated about three hours Thursday before convicting 21-year-old Deandre Plant in Caleb Woosley’s slaying.

A judge will sentence the Richmond man on Dec. 21.

Woosley’s badly beaten body was found in May 2014 in an alley in Richmond, about 65 miles east of Indianapolis. Authorities said he was slain because of an encounter he allegedly had with a girl.

The Palladium-Item reports (https://pinews.co/1mdr0vg ) that Plant is the second of four co-defendants convicted of murder in Woosley’s killing.

Two other young men pleaded guilty in connection with his death. One of those men pleaded guilty to murder and the other to assisting a criminal.
