ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Taxicab rates in Arlington County will go up in the new year for the first time in almost four years.

Officials in Arlington County said in a statement Saturday that the county board has approved increasing the initial charge for a ride by 25 cents, from $2.75 to $3. In addition, the per-mile rate will rise 6 cents, from $2.10 to $2.16. The per-hour waiting fee will go from $22.50 to $23.14.

All the changes will be effective Jan. 1. Officials said that the rising cost of doing business led to the rate hike.
