KENNER, La. (AP) - A dedication ceremony has been set for next weekend to mark the donation of a new piece of public art to the city of Kenner.

The sculpture of a 16-foot elephant named Ella will be on display in the median of Kenner’s Sal Lentini Parkway.

The city says the sculpture was created by artist Hernan Caro, with the goal of educating the public about vanishing species around the world.

The sculpture was donated to the city by Kenner residents Henry and Pat Shane.

Henry Shane, an architect and developer, said he and his wife expect to donate at least 20 sculptures designed to be used as part of a Kenner beautification plan. Ella makes the 9th donation thus far.

The dedication is set for next Saturday at 2 p.m.
