LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Department of Insurance is reminding consumers that Tuesday marks the open enrollment deadline for coverage that begins on Jan. 1.

The advisory is aimed at consumers who aren’t automatically re-enrolled and still want coverage. Consumers who purchase their insurance after Dec. 15 but prior to Jan. 15 can expect their coverage to begin on Feb. 1.

Department officials say consumers should not look not only at the cost but also the quality of a plan’s network as well as copays, deductibles and coinsurance.

Insurance Director Bruce Ramge says a gap in coverage can be “extremely problematic” if an individual suddenly gets sick or injured.
