TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Four days after pleading guilty to embezzling from a charity for abused and neglected children, Alfred Schaffer was fired from his job as a city fire captain.

A fire department spokesman told the Tampa Tribune (https://bit.ly/1Q81xjQ) that 50-year-old Schaffer had actually resigned from his fire department job, effective Monday, but department administers on Friday recommended his termination following a brief hearing.

Schaffer pleaded guilty Monday to a federal fraud charge, admitting he stole more than $187,000 from Hope Children’s Home, where he served as chief financial officer until 2011.

Schaffer faces up to 20 years in federal prison when he is sentenced sometime next year.
