STURGEON BAY, Wis. (AP) - A fire aboard a freighter in Sturgeon Bay has sent two firefighters and two workers to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were called to the fire aboard the Alpena at Bay Shipbuilding Co. Friday evening.

Assistant Sturgeon Bay Fire Chief Tim Dietman tells WBAY-TV (https://bit.ly/1Np9laQ ) four people were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation - a firefighter from Sturgeon Bay, another from Southern Door Fire Department, and two Bay Shipbuilding workers. The firefighters also were treated for dehydration. Dietman says everyone was released from the hospital Friday night or Saturday morning.

Many other firefighters were treated at the scene for dehydration.

Dietman says fighting the fire inside the ship was like “crawling into an oven.”

Eighty-five firefighters responded. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
