AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine’s annual deer season is ending for the year with the final hunting day for archers and muzzleloader shooters.

The hunting season’s final day is Saturday. Archery is legal in designated areas near cities as part of the “expanded archery” season. The use of muzzleloaders is legal in certain wildlife management districts around the state.

State wildlife authorities recommend hunters check regulations before hunting.

The firearms season for deer hunting ended on Nov. 28. There were fewer deer permits this year because of reduced population caused by last year’s severe winter weather.
