FARGO, N.D. (AP) - An inmate at the North Dakota State Penitentiary is facing a maximum penalty of life in prison after pleading guilty to a federal weapons charge.

Travis Dethlefs is charged with possession of firearms by a convicted felon. Prosecutors say Dethlefs faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years because of his extensive criminal history.

The 26-year-old Dethlefs was convicted previously of 10 felony counts for burglary. He also has a felony conviction for escape.

Authorities say Dethlefs illegally possessed a 12-guage shotgun in 2011.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 23.
