ODESSA, Texas (AP) - A West Texas jury has found a former police officer guilty of multiple counts of sexual impropriety for groping women during traffic stops.
The Ector County jury deliberated almost four hours before finding former Odessa police Officer Salvador Becerra (buh-SEHR’-uh) of five counts of improper sexual activity with a person in custody. However, jurors also acquitted him of single counts of sexual assault and improper sexual activity with a person in custody.
According to trial evidence, numerous women said Becerra groped and fondled them during traffic stops.
Jurors will begin hearing testimony on Becerra’s sentence Monday. He could be sentenced to from six months to two years in state jail for each count - or be placed on probation.
