WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Santa Claus is hitching a ride aboard a helicopter to visit children whose parents serve in the Coast Guard.

Friends of Flying Santa, Inc. organizes annual Christmas flights to New England lighthouses.

The First Coast Guard District says the nonprofit has planned a flight for Sunday to the lighthouse in Warwick, Rhode Island.

Children of Coast Guard members will receive gifts flown in by Santa on his helicopter sleigh.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Andrew Barresi says the children’s parents serve at the service’s Civil Engineering Unit in Providence.

Barresi says it’s a great holiday tradition and the kids are always thrilled by it.
