TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Texarkana has been awarded four state grants totaling nearly $230,000 to help improve the city’s recreational trails.

Texarkana received the funds from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.

The Texarkana Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1Qbm3zV ) the $227,252 total will help the city improve sidewalks, extend trails and assist with work on a trail and bridge connection.

Tracie Lee, the city’s Public Works assistant director, says the grants will help money-conscious officials meet their goal of making Texarkana more walkable without making a dent in the municipal budget.
