TULSA, Okla. (AP) - The eligibility of a candidate running for Tulsa sheriff is being questioned by one of his opponents.

Republican Tom Helm says he’s contesting the candidacy of Erich Richter in the special election to replace the remaining term of indicted ex-sheriff Stanley Glanz.

The Tulsa World reports (https://bit.ly/1SU3uy1 ) that voter records show Richter switched his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat on Sept. 15, and then changed his registration back to Republican on Oct. 6.

State law says a candidate for sheriff must be affiliated with a political party six months before filing for office, but Richter says he isn’t concerned about the challenge.

Thirteen candidates have filed to run in the special election. The primary in the contest is March 1.
