SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois State Police officials say a hard-drive squad car should be replaced after four years or 80,000 miles. The chart shows how a $1 surcharge on annual vehicle registrations helped the state police keep updated on its fleet. Each line shows the year, the number of vehicles in the state police fleet, the average mileage, the average age in years, and the percentage of the fleet with more than the recommended 80,000 miles.
