GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Gulfport officials are planning groundbreaking ceremonies for what they hope will be a popular destination for tourists and locals.

It’s called Fishbone Alley. It sits between historic buildings on Gulfport’s 26th and 27th avenues. The courtyards of several restaurants and bars will open onto Fishbone Alley, which is envisioned as a pedestrian area featuring brick pavers, landscaping and art.

City officials say in a news release that a New Orleans developer also is building upscale apartments off the alley.

The city’s official groundbreaking ceremony is set for Wednesday morning. Work on the site will begin later in the week and completion is expected in about three months.
