FIFPro, the global soccer players’ union, is developing a women’s World XI team that would be determined by a vote of national team players.

FIFPro has collected several hundred votes both by email and in person in a test run, and results will be revealed in January. There will be informal recognition of the 11 players who are named to the final team.

At the Women’s World Cup this past summer in Canada, FIFPro announced plans for increased support of the women’s game, offering women direct membership in the union for the first time in its 50-year history.

FIFPro has gathered more than 26,000 votes for the men’s World XI, which will be announced at the FIFA Ballon d’Or award ceremony. The plan is to eventually give the women’s awards equal billing.
