AMSTERDAM (AP) - The Dutch Eredivisie’s winter break can’t come soon enough for league leader Ajax.

After being eliminated from the Europa League midweek, Frank de Boer’s team lost 1-0 at Utrecht on Sunday, thanks to a late strike by former Ajax midfielder Yassin Ayoub.

Feyenoord failed to fully take advantage of its rival’s slip, drawing 1-1 at Groningen to cut Ajax’s lead to two points.

Michael De Leeuw gave Groningen a 25th-minute lead before veteran Dirk Kuyt levelled for Feyenoord five minutes after the break with a deflected shot. Just two minutes later, Feyenoord was reduced to 10 men when Jan-Arie van der Heijden was sent off for fouling Jesper Drost.

On Saturday, PSV Eindhoven could only manage a 1-1 draw against 14th-place Roda JC Kerkrade.
