MACON, Ga. (AP) - A 14-year-old girl has died after being shot in a drive-by shooting in a Macon neighborhood.

Bibb County coroner Leon Jones tells local media that Tishantis Roberts was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds Sunday evening. The shooting happened shortly after 6 p.m. outside of a home in southwest Macon.

Bibb County sheriff’s deputies found 17 shell casings in the front yard of the home. Roberts was inside the house when the shooting happened. Deputy Linda Howard says responders thought the girl was going to survive because she was talking on the way to the hospital.

Howard says an earlier incident involving the victim’s brother may have led to the shooting.
