EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A man allegedly driving in an erratic manner has been accused of trying to run over an El Paso police officer who then shot him.

El Paso County jail records show 57-year-old Alberto Bencomo was being held Monday on charges of resisting arrest and aggravated assault against a public servant.

Jail records don’t list an attorney to speak for Bencomo, whose bond was set at $161,500.

Investigators say Bencomo was grazed by an officer’s bullet during the incident Friday night as police helped direct heavy traffic.

Police say Bencomo refused to step out of his truck and then drove toward an officer, who opened fire. Bencomo fled but was later located at his home.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave amid a review of the incident.

This story has been corrected to show the shooting happened Friday, not Sunday
