REDMOND, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say they have arrested a man on suspicion of murder in the death of a woman who was shot outside a Redmond home while trying to flee the man.

The Bend Bulletin reports (https://bit.ly/1NOJeO8 ) that 23-year-old Mario Morataya was arrested Saturday. He faces charges of murder, kidnapping, assault and unlawful use of a weapon in the Friday night death of 24-year-old Rebekah Gomes.

Officers had responded to the home and found Gomes, who had been shot, lying in the roadway. She was taken to a hospital and later died.

Police began searching for Morataya, who they believed to be armed and dangerous.

With help from the public, officers located Morataya’s vehicle at a hotel in Mitchell and arrested the man.
