GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a train in Greenville County over the weekend.

Chief Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis tells local news outlets that 57-year-old Mark Walter Hewins of Greenville was lying on the tracks when he was struck and killed early Saturday afternoon.

Ellis says that the train engineer saw Hewins and applied the emergency brake but the train was not able to stop in time.
