CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a 5-year-old girl has been attacked by two dogs she was playing with at a family friend’s home.

The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1SW4fqe ) reports officers responded to a call Sunday morning about the attack.

Police say the victim had been at the home with her mother, but it isn’t clear if she was left alone outside. The girl was flown to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. She was later transferred for Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters for surgery.

Animal Control and Chesapeake police officers are investigating.

The two dogs were in the custody of Animal Control officers following the incident.

Police did not provide additional details.
