CUMMING, Ga. (AP) - Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies have recovered the body of a 77-year-old woman after her car was found in Lake Lanier.

Cpl. Robin Regan tells media that deputies and firefighters responded Saturday afternoon to Tidwell Park in Cumming. Responders found a Toyota Camry submerged at the end of a boat ramp. They retrieved the car from the lake, and found the body of Reva Jennings inside.

Regan says detectives believe Jennings accidentally drove into the lake, and don’t suspect foul play.

Forsyth County Republican Party Vice Chairman Carolyn Fisher says Jennings was very active in Georgia’s Republican Party. In the 1980s, she was president of the Georgia Federation of Republican Women.

Friends believe Jennings was on her way home from a GOP Christmas party at the Governor’s Mansion when she died.
