RICHFIELD, Utah (AP) - Documents allege that a Utah man left a brawl with man he’s accused of killing before returning and shooting the man dead.

The Deseret News on Sunday (https://bit.ly/1Z6QRDh ) cited court documents in the murder case against 39-year-old William Gene Muir of Venice.

Muir is accused of killing 36-year-old David Rioja on Nov. 22 in front of Rijoa’s house in Venice

Rioja’s brother told police he heard Muir and Rioja fighting, Muir leave and return, and three gunshots before Muir’s pickup truck left the scene in a spin of tires.

Muir called 911 and reported that he shot someone who attacked him with a baseball bat.

Police reported finding a broken wooden handle with blood on it at the shooting scene.

Muir is due in court on Tuesday.
