RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Commonwealth University’s Center for Clinical Translational Research has received a $16 million gift from a longtime school benefactor.

The university says in a news release that six endowed chairs will be established with $12 million of the gift from C. Kenneth Wright and the C. Kenneth Wright and Dianne Wright Foundation. The remaining $4 million will establish a physician-scientist scholars program.

The research center will be named the C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research.

The university says its philanthropic relationship with Wright and his late wife, Dianne, dates to 1999, and includes scholarships, professorships, and support for cancer research and pulmonary care.
