BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man who lost his left-hand in an explosion at his Northfield home is now facing federal criminal charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says 45-year-old Mark McCloud is facing charges of unlawfully possessing explosive devices and unlawfully transferring an explosive device.

McCloud was injured Dec. 9 when the explosive device he was holding detonated. Three other people suffered less serious injuries.

In a statement posted on YouTube confirmed by a state prosecutor, McCloud claims the explosives were fireworks that had been stored at his mother’s house and he gave some away. He apologized to the community, those who were hurt and he said he would be “paying for this for the rest of my life.”

McCloud is due to appear in federal court on Dec. 21.
