FOREST, Va. (AP) - A Virginia sculptor and his wife have donated a portrait bust of Thomas Jefferson to Poplar Forest, the third president’s Bedford County retreat home.

The News & Advance (https://bit.ly/221pqxh ) reports that the Richard Pumphrey’s bronze bust is on display in the south room of the lower level of the villa at Poplar Forest.

The sculpture was unveiled last month during the Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival at Poplar Forest.

Richard Pumphrey teaches design and sculpting classes at Lynchburg College.

His wife, Kathryn Pumphrey said in a news release that the couple had observed the restorations taking place at the home since the mid-1980’s. She says she thought it was important to have Jefferson’s likeness present inside the home.
